Hey everyone! Fashion Month has officially wrapped, and I am still recovering 😅. This season I only covered New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, but I still spotted so many amazing looks and trends shooting outside shows and events. In the next few Substack posts, I will be breaking down one of the most prevalent style aesthetics I spotted this fashion season.
First up - 1960’s Aesthetics
Jackie O style, mod silhouettes, and the rebirth of boho chic are clear indicators of the influence of the 1960’s on today’s designers. Some of the key pieces I spotted outside shows this season included:
Pillbox hats
Alternative hats to the usual beanie was a big prediction of mine for this fashion season, and I have to revel in the fact that I was very correct. Among the headwear worn by show-goers, pillbox hats stood out the most to me. Since the 1960’s, the pillbox hat has been synonymous with the style of Jackie O, who popularized it by wearing multiple pillbox hats throughout JFK’s presidential term.
Peter Pan collars
Fun fact: The Peter Pan collar got its name from the collar of Maude Adams's costume in her 1905 role as Peter Pan on Broadway. Through the 1930’s to 1950’s, Peter Pan collars were common among bridal and formal wear designs, before becoming mainstream and incredibly popular in the 1960’s (source: sondeflor.com).
The Peter Pan collar also feels quite reminiscent of of twee/2010’s fashion, which is another style aesthetic resurgence I’ve been keeping on eye on.
Leopard print coats
Leopard print has been THE print for the last few seasons, and there is something about a leopard print coat that feels sooo 60’s to me. Especially when they are in a swing or boxy silhouette, a belted trench, or an aforementioned Peter Pan collar.
Wide headbands
Wide headbands ala Bridgette Bardot were a popular hair accessory this season. Most opted for a plain, jersey headband, but I also spotted some variations like grommets and prints.
Oversized sunglasses
Circular, oversized sunglasses are emblematic of mod fashion, and the style was also carried over into the birth of boho in the late 1960’s. Look to Prada, Chloe, and Gucci for updated versions of this style.
Lady jackets
Another Jackie O staple during her tenure as First Lady, the lady jacket is a Chanel staple, but every brand and their mother have put out a version of the tweed lady jacket over the past year.
Let me know what you think of these 60’s trends coming back!

Love your photography. And yes agree on the 60s trend coming back, definitely fuelled by Alessandro Michele’s Valentino among others.
Such a fan! And I love how so many of these women mix current/modern style with the 60s. Thank you for sharing!
